As the entire nation geared up to celebrate the 70th Independence Day in all its glory, the people in IIM Lucknow were looking up at the skies, hoping that the rains recede. The rains didn’t relent and neither did the spirits. People, which included students, faculty and staff and their family members, came out in droves to celebrate the auspicious occasion.

It all started with the flag hoisting at 9 am which as always, filled everyone with a sense of pride. It was followed by an address by the Director of our institute Dr. Ajit Prasad. He emphasized on implementing ethics and professionalism in everyday life. It was an enriching speech. The brief programme also had mesmerizing performances from the students. Jasleen Kaur’s rendition of Luka Chhuppi struck an instant chord with the audience which was followed by the evergreen Aye Mere watan ke logon which brought out the sense of occasion in the audience. The later part of the programme involved prize distribution of prizes for the Rangoli and Essay writing competitions by the Director himself and some delectable Lucknowi mithaais to gorge on for all the people.

The second half of the day featured some pretty intense sporting competitions which were coordinated by the Sports Committee. The best part of the events was the participation by the kids from Project Khel. In spite of the incessant rain, the level of the play as well as the size of the audience was truly amazing. It truly depicted the spirit of IIM Lucknow – all for one, one for all. The icing on the cake was fierce competition in the Tug-of-War tournament. Such was the intensity of the fierce display of strength and character that everyone was left dumbfounded for at least some time.
All in all, it was IIM Lucknow’s simple yet engaging way of celebrating the Independence Day in the face of the bad weather conditions. As the day ended, the students went back to study for their quizzes and the Professors went to prepare for taking classes on Tuesday. But there was an unmistakable sense of pride and a renewed vigor to act on our promise of a better India.

Jai Hind!!
